MapMap – Open-Source Video Mapping Software

MapMap is the tool you need when projection cannot stay rectangular: you draw masks on the surface you are projecting onto, place your media, and align the video with the real architecture. Built for installations, performances, and cultural venues, MapMap is free software that makes video setups reproducible and shareable between artists and technicians.

History

The project began when Alexandre Quessy (Art Plus Code) and Mike Latona decided to build an accessible video mapping solution together: free, cross-platform software for people who stage custom projections rather than standard screens.

To turn that vision into lasting software, the project received initial financial support from the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie—a lever that helped launch development and go beyond a simple prototype. Sofian Audry was brought on as lead developer for his skill in building user interfaces. Dame Diongue later joined the project.

Alexandre Quessy of Art Plus Code led the project as project manager and release manager:

Together, that structure took the work from an idea to software you can use in the field—not only a demo.

Why MapMap remains a strong reference for your next installation

Whether you are planning a video mapping night, an exhibition, or a technical residency, MapMap embodies an approach: technical rigor, artistic vision, and delivery in service of the audience.
